LIU Defeats Chicago State To Begin Conference Play 2-0 For Second Straight Season

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — With some momentum in its favor, LIU defeated Chicago State by a score of 53-39 on Sunday afternoon.

Still basking in that winning glow from their 78-62 Jan. 3 victory over Le Moyne at the Barclays Center last week, the Sharks continued to ride the wave and picked up another victory upon returning to the Steinberg Wellness Center.

Jamal Fuller led three Sharks scorers in double-figures with 16 points on 5 of 8 shooting, to go with 7 rebounds. Malachi Davis added 12 points, and Brent Davis had 10 points for his second-best scoring output of the campaign.

LIU trailed by three at the break despite 10 first half points from Malachi Davis. The Sharks had an incredibly strong second half, outscoring Chicago State 31-14 and ending the game on a 14-3 run. The team turned up the defensive intensity, holding the opponent to under 30% shooting and scoring 15 points off turnovers in the game.

This win helps LIU begin conference play with a 2-0 mark for the second straight season. The Sharks now own a 4-3 record at home.

LIU will play its next game on Friday, Jan. 10, visiting Stonehill at 7 p.m.
