EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — The LIU women's hockey team fell to Sacred Heart, 1-0, in game one of the Sharks' home-and-home series against the Pioneers at the Northwell Health Ice Center on Saturday night.
LIU goaltender Abbie Thompson stopped 22 shots and was flawless in net until the Pioneers scored at the 9:19 mark of the third period, which turned out to be the game's only goal.
Bri Eid led the Sharks with a team-high five shots, while Emma Mortl paced all defensemen with four blocked shots.
LIU and Sacred Heart will face off again on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Fairfield, Conn.
