RIVERDALE, N.Y. — A second-half goal from defender
Niklas Thanhofer kept the Sharks in their match against Manhattan, but the Jaspers were able to hold on for the 2-1 victory.
The former UIndy standout tallied his first career LIU goal in the 80th minute to cut Manhattan's lead to one. This strike gave the Sharks momentum heading into the final ten minutes of the contest.
This led to a flurry of pressure from LIU's offense, who earned three corner kicks and had shots from
Stephane Njike and
Alan Martinez that didn't get to the back of the net.
Martinez picked up an assist on the Thanhofer goal and had his last chance saved by Jaspers goalie Ludvig Malberg in the final minute of the game.
The Sharks return to action at LIU Soccer Park against Fairfield on Wednesday, September 11, at 2 p.m. on NEC Front Row.
