BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Despite giving up an early goal to the Fairfield Stags, LIU men's soccer stormed back with two goals to pick up its third win of the season on a bright and sunny day at LIU Soccer Park.
A first-half header off a cross for Fairfield forward Thomas Drillen put the Stags up one in the first half and they took that lead into the break.
LIU struck quickly with electric freshman
Stephane Njike, who continues to display tremendous ability on the pitch. It was his team-leading third goal of the season with
Niklas Thanhofer and
Tal Levy each picking up assists. Njike's three goals are tied for second most in the NEC during this part of non-conference play.
15 minutes later it was Njike again, this time setting up Thanhofer for a header that put LIU on top 2-1. Despite some pushes from the Stags, the Sharks held on to get back over .500.
Assistant coach
Jesse Corke said, "I'm proud of our guys for staying the course over these last few games. They are continuing to work hard and grind it out, which makes a result like this so satisfying."
The Sharks travel to Washington, D.C. to play the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Shaw Field. Fans can catch the game on the Big East Network with kickoff time set for 1 p.m.
