ALBANY, N.Y. —The LIU Sharks women's soccer team kicked off their 2024 season on the road against the University at Albany at
Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on ESPN+.
In his LIU debut, decorated head coach
Thomas Giovatto saw his Sharks get on the board first after an early goal from captain
Gina Proviano. LIU took their 1-0 lead over the Great Danes into halftime but Albany stormed back with three goals in the second half to pick up the opening win.

Keely Thomas picked up six saves, including the first four shots sent her way. LIU also kept the pressure on Albany for much of the night, earning seven corner kicks, but were unable to come away with the victory.
