BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU women's soccer team played its home opener at LIU Soccer Park against the newly named Manhattan University on Thursday afternoon.

The Jaspers scored early thanks to a strike from Arancha Antunes' first goal of the season and while the Sharks fought valiantly, they were unable to erase the deficit.

Captains Gina Proviano and Izzy Stein applied pressure with two shots each, but LIU couldn't get anything past Jaspers goalkeeper Margaret Brunk. 

The Sharks turned up the energy in the second half and earned several late corner kicks, while also playing high-level defense to keep the game within reach.

LIU returns to action on Sunday when they visit Boston College.
