BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The 2024 NEC-champion LIU Sharks men's baseball team will meet the North Carolina Tar Heels in Chapel Hill in the 2024 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship Regionals on Friday, May 31, at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
The
NCAA announced the field of 64 teams competing in regional group play with the Sharks being joined by host team UNC, who is the number-seven ranked team nationally, the 21st-ranked LSU Tigers, and the Wofford Terriers.
The Sharks showed their resilience in capturing their second NEC title under manager
Dan Pirillo, who has LIU in the NCAA Tournament for the second time since their Division I inception in 2019. Their previous appearance was in 2022, where they faced the University of Maryland and Wake Forest in the College Park, MD, regional.
"The Chapel Hill regional is full of outstanding teams," said Pirillo. "We are ready to embrace the opportunity to play and compete in the NCAA Tournament."
LIU heads into the regional 33-23 in the midst of a record-breaking season for the club. The Sharks won a program-record 24 regular-season NEC games and finished the season with a .727 NEC winning percentage – the highest total during the Shark era.
