BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU baseball team returned home and defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 8-5 in game one of its three-game series against the Hawks.
Benjamin Fierenzi's single to center field put the Sharks up 2-0.
Maryland Eastern Shore scored five unanswered runs to take a 5-3 lead.
But LIU battled back.
Jack Power singled to right in the eighth inning, pulling LIU within one.
Noah Sorensen drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at five.
Seth Surrett's single to right field put the Sharks ahead 7-5.
Garrett Yawn struck out nine batters in five innings.
PJ Moritz and
Jack VanDoran pitched 2.2 innings of relief.
The Sharks and the Hawks will be back on the field tomorrow at 1 p.m.
