POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The LIU women's water polo team took on Mount St. Mary's Friday afternoon in the first round of the MAAC tournament.

Elena Camarena struck first to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead but the Mount would come back with three of their own to take the lead. Right before halftime Camarena and the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year
Paola Dominguez-Castro would strike to tie the match up at three.
Out of the half, the battle was momentum swung with every goal. No team could pull away from one another as the lead never grew larger than one. Mount St. Mary's went up 8-7 with 1:30 remaining in the match, but Dominguez-Castro would score to it just 14 seconds later. The game was looking to go to overtime until the Mount potted the match-winner with six seconds remaining and LIU fell 9-8.
