BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU baseball team surpassed its win total from last season by picking up its 20th win of the season, after beating Delaware State 8-1 in game 1 of its three-game series against the Hornets.
The Sharks took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning after
Jake Mastillo smashed a two-run blast to center.
Carlton Harper and
Jacob Pipercic both drove in a pair of runs in the sixth as the Sharks opened up a 6-1 lead. Pipercic finished the game with three RBIs.
Garrett Yawn started the game and struck out seven batters in six innings.
PJ Moritz struck out three batters in two perfect innings of relief, and
Kevin Small closed the game with a solid ninth-inning performance.
Both teams will be back on the field tomorrow at 1 p.m.
