BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — LIU Baseball dropped the final game of its NEC series against Le Moyne 8-5 Saturday at LIU Baseball Stadium.
LIU starter
Jared Hughes threw four scoreless innings to start his outing before Le Moyne tallied six runs in the fifth inning on seven hits. Le Moyne's Brady Fureno hit a two-run home run to make it 6-5.
The Sharks got out to an early lead in the bottom of the first.
Seth Surrett led off with a single and later scored on a
Jake Mastillo double to make it 1-0. A
Jarod Wade single and a wild pitch later in the inning made it 3-0.
LIU added two more in the fourth.
Matthew McGurk drove in a run with a single. McGurk was on third base when Surrett laid down a safety squeeze to make it 5-0.
Le Moyne loaded the bases in both the seventh and the ninth. In the seventh, Jason Boule hit a SAC fly to make it 7-5. Wyatt Patchett brought in a run in the ninth on an infield single to make it 8-5.
McGurk attempted to start a rally in the bottom of the ninth, leading off the frame with his first career home run, making it 8-6. The Sharks got the tying run to the plate but were unable to score any further runs.
LIU had nine hits with multi-hit efforts from McGurk and Surrett.
The Sharks drop to 3-9 overall and 2-1 in NEC play. LIU will head to Queens for a midweek matchup against St. John's Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
