BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU baseball team split its doubleheader against Sacred Heart on Saturday as the Sharks wrapped up their three-game series against the Pioneers.
JC Navarro hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give LIU a 3-0 lead.
Noah Sorensen followed that up with a two-run shot to left centerfield to wrap up the Sharks' five-run first inning.
Dominic Pieto pitched another gem. The redshirt junior fanned nine batters in seven innings.
Jack VanDoran picked up the save after striking out a pair of batters in the final two innings.
LIU won game 1, 6-4.
Jake Mastillo stole home to open the scoring in game 2.
JC Navarro came up big for the Sharks in the ninth inning. Navarro's single to right field tied the ball game at five.
The Pioneers would win the game in the 10th inning, 5-4.
LIU returns home to host Iona on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
