BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – JC Navarro and
Jake Mastillo hit back-to-back home runs in game one of the Sharks' three-game series against Sacred Heart on Friday afternoon.
Navarro broke the scoreless game with a solo shot to left field, giving LIU a 1-0 lead.
Jake Mastillo followed up with a home run, extending LIU's lead to 2-0.
However, the Pioneers plated three runs in the bottom of the inning, taking a 3-2 lead and eventually knocking off the Sharks 4-2 at Veterans Park.
Garrett Yawn was sharp on the mound for LIU. The Moorpark, Calif., native struck out seven batters in five innings.
PJ Moritz pitched two innings of relief and struck out a pair.
Noah Sorensen finished the game with three hits.
LIU wraps up its series against Sacred Heart with a doubleheader on Saturday.
