BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU women's basketball team welcomed future NEC member Chicago State to the Steinberg Wellness for the teams' second matchup of the season.
Chicago State led for most of the game, leading by as much as seven halfway late in the third quarter. The Sharks were not phased, however, as they cut the lead the four going into the final quarter. The fourth was when the Sharks woke up as they seemingly could not miss, shooting over 50% from the floor. LIU shot 80% from behind the arc in the fourth with clutch buckets from
Alexzeya Brooks,
Janessa Williams and
Mariah Elohim as the Sharks won 80-71
Elohim had an incredible game as she scored a career-high 30 points while shooting 12-20 from the floor and 6-11 from three. The sophomore also added five assists and three rebounds.
Ashley Austin was just as integral to the victory as she scored a season-high 26 points on 12-18 shooting. She also recorded a team-high eight rebounds and season-high seven steals.
Samantha Bailey led the Sharks with seven rebounds
The Sharks return to the court on Friday at 7 p.m. when they travel to Merrimack.
