Mariah Elohim and Ashley Austin Combine for 49 Points as Women's Basketball Takes Down Wagner in Nail Biter

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The LIU women's basketball welcomed Wagner to the Steinberg Wellness Center on Saturday afternoon for an important NEC tilt.

The Sharks came out absolutely firing, shooting 64.2% from three in the first half, taking a 16-point lead into the locker room.

LIU would cool down in the second half, only scoring 19 points as Wagner stormed back to take the game into overtime.

The OT period was when the Sharks finally kicked it back into gear as a Wagner technical foul with three minutes remaining would give LIU all the momentum it needed. Nigeria Harkless took over in the paint, scoring two big buckets to extend the lead. Ashley Austin would seal the game at the free throw line and the Sharks won 70-65.

Mariah Elohim lead the team with 25 points was Austin followed closely behind with 24.

Austin led the team with seven assists.

Samantha Bailey and Janessa Williams dominated the boards once again with each grabbing 10 boards.

The Sharks return to the court on Thursday at 7 p.m. for Senior Night against CCSU.
