OXFORD, Miss. – LIU opened its season at SBJ Pavilion against No. 24 Ole Miss, falling to the Rebels, 90-60.
Malachi Davis and Brent Davis led the Sharks with 19 points each. Malachi Davis scored the first 10 points for LIU and had 13 of his 19 points in the first half. Brent Davis scored the first 10 points for the Sharks in the second half.
The LIU defense was strong for much of the first half, holding Ole Miss to 36.4 percent shooting from the field in the first 16:46 of play. However, the Rebels outscored the Sharks 15-9 to close the half.
The Sharks struggled with their shooting in front of a crowd of 7,982. LIU finished 20-of-58 from the field and 5-of-15 from three-point range. Shadrak Lasu led the team with seven rebounds.
Next, LIU will return to Brooklyn for its home opener on Nov. 9 at 12 p.m. against Pratt Institute.
