Alan Martinez Leads Sharks To 1-0 Win On Senior Day

 BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Standing tall as one of eight players honored at LIU Soccer Park on Sunday during Senior Day, Alan Martinez rose to the occasion and scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute of play to give the Sharks a thrilling 1-0 victory over Central Connecticut State.
 
LIU picked up its third conference win of the season, improving to 3-1-1 against conference opponents, 5-1-2 at home, and 6-4-6 overall on the campaign.
 
The players who were honored pregame for their accomplishments and special contributions to the program included:
  • Alan Martinez, the 2023 and 2024 team captain who has been part of the 2021 and 2023 NEC Tournament and Conference-winning teams. Martinez was the 2023 NEC Tournament MVP, and was named to the 2022 and 2023 NEC Fall Academic Honor Rolls.
  • Jack Fridman, who made 33 appearances for LIU over three seasons after transferring from Nassau Community College. He was part of the 2023 NEC Championship team and has made NEC Fall Academic Honor Roll each season.
  • Joseph Rigano, a member of the 2021 NEC conference-winning and 2023 NEC Tournament winning teams.
  • Eoin Gawronski, a captain for the 2024 season who was part of the 2023 NEC Tournament winning team and was named to the All-Tournament Team. 
  • Saïdou Diallo, who was part of the 2020 All-Rookie Team, and a member of the 2021 NEC conference-winning and NEC Tournament winning team. Saïdou was also part of the 2023 NEC Conference winning team, where he was Second Team All-Conference, leading the NEC with nine assists.
  • Jonathan Villacis, who was part of the 2023 NEC Tournament winning team after transferring to LIU from Nassau Community College.
  • Papa Sow, who appeared in 77 career games and was a member of the 2021 NEC conference-winning and NEC Tournament winning team, as well as the 2023 NEC Tournament winning team.
  • Jesper Mikkelsen, who appeared in 15 games for the Sharks this season after transferring from Adelphi, scoring 3 goals and tallying 1 assist, including the game-winner against Albany.
 LIU will next face Le Moyne on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m.
