Women's Hockey Looks for Saturday Payback after Suffering First NEWHA Blemish

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — The LIU women's hockey team remains in the driver's seat to repeat as the NEWHA regular-season championship. However, the Sharks are no longer unbeaten in conference play.

Sacred Heart defeated LIU, 2-1, on Friday afternoon at Northwell Health Ice Center as Anastasia Sloan scored the game winner midway through the second period.

LIU had evened the score at 1 early in that period on a power-play goal from Mikayla Lantto.

The Sharks dropped to 14-1 in NEWHA play.

Sacred Heart outshot LIU, 37-29.

LIU will have a chance to quickly get retribution. The teams meet in Fairfield, Conn., on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
