BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU women's basketball team continued NEC play on Saturday afternoon when they welcomed conference newcomer Le Moyne to town.
The Sharks and Dolphins had a very competitive first half where lots of good basketball was played. Both teams were hitting their shots and taking care of the ball, but unfortunately for LIU, Le Moyne was just making shots at a crazy pace. The Dolphins would take a nine-point lead into half and did just could not miss coming out of the break. Le Moyne would finish the game shooting 51.7% from the floor as the Sharks fell 80-62.
Ashley Austin returned from injury and was the leading scorer for LIU with 15 points. She also recorded a team-high six rebounds and three assists.
Nigeria Harkless scored 12 points and tallied five rebounds.
Mariah Elohim kept her double-digit point streak going (11 points) as it now sits at nine.
The Sharks return to the court on Thursday at 7 p.m. when they take on FDU in Brooklyn for National Girls & Women in Sports Night.
