FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The LIU women's basketball team went to Sacred Heart on Thursday looking for its fourth straight win.
With a couple of starters unavailable due to injury, the Sharks held their own in the first half, trailing by four. Unfortunately for LIU, the game started to get away from it in the third quarter as foul trouble crept up on the Sharks. Playing shorthanded, they could not get back into a groove and fell 70-55, dropping to 3-3 in NEC play.
Mariah Elohim scored a team-high 17 points, marking her eight straight game scoring double-digit points.
Amaya Dowdy scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds in just three quarters of play.
Alexzeya Brooks led the team with five assists while also scoring five points and tallying six rebounds.
Janessa Williams had another impressive night on the glass, recording a team-high eight rebounds in her first career start.
The Sharks return to the court on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they welcome conference newcomer Le Moyne.
