BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The LIU women's basketball team continued NEC play on Saturday afternoon when they welcomed Sacred Heart to town.
The Sharks kept it close in the first quarter, only trailing by one thanks to some stout defense, but it would not be enough to hold off the Pioneers. Sacred Heart would take a 10-point lead into the half and never looked back.
LIU would continue to fight, but it just could not get the big shot to fall as it fell 67-56 and dropped to 1-2 in conference play.
Ashley Austin was once again the Sharks' top scorer, recording 17 points. She also added six rebounds and an assist.
Mariah Elohim had a nice day, scoring 16.
Emaia O'Brien,
Amaya Dowdy and
Janessa Williams were all tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven. O'Brien also led the Shark in assists with five.
The Sharks return to the court on Monday at 2 p.m. when they travel to Chicago State.
