HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The LIU field hockey's team's match against Cal was interrupted early in the third quarter for more than an hour due to lightning in the area. It also was called with 2 minutes, 29 seconds remaining due to weather.
During play, the Sharks held their own against the Bears, falling 2-1, in a match played at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.
Saarah Olton broke a three-match scoreless drought for LIU and pulled the Sharks within a goal in the third quarter.
Olton, a graduate student from Trinidad and Tobago, also has LIU's lone other goal this season — in the season opener at UMass Lowell.
LIU (0-5) returns to action when it faces Holy Cross on Sunday at 11 a.m. on Staten Island.
