HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Emilce Paez opened the scoring, but the Hofstra field hockey team rallied for a 2-1 double-overtime win against visiting LIU.
After Paez scored early in the fourth quarter, the Pride forced overtime with a goal with 35 seconds remaining in regulation.
Fleur Hofman, who entered the match leading the NEC in save percentage, made five saves for the Sharks.
LIU was playing its first match since defeating Holy Cross 12 days earlier.
The Sharks now are set to open conference play. LIU hosts Sacred Heart in the NEC opener next Friday at noon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
