HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The LIU women's soccer team again saved its best for the second half and earned a second straight come-from-behind win.
This time, the victory came in the Northeast Conference opener on Thursday afternoon.
Izzy Stein scored the equalizer and
Stephanie Schubert tallied the game-winner as the Sharks rallied for a 2-1 win in a match played at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
Schubert finished a centering pass from
Gina Proviano in the 82nd minute for the decisive score.
"I got the ball on a throw-in. I faked like I was going to go right and took it to the left," Proviano said. "I put a nice cross in for Stephanie. And she had a hard-fought finish."
Earlier, Proviano also set up the game-tying goal. Stein put in the rebound of Proviano's shot off the post in the 67th minute.
LIU improved to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the NEC.
The win against Stonehill marked the second straight match in which the Sharks overcame a one-goal deficit en route to the victory. LIU also rallied for a 2-1 win at VMI on Sunday.
"It seems to be that we bring it in the second half," coach
Lucy Gillett said. "The energy was really high. The girls are starting to stick together and figure out what they need to do, with lots of energy all around."
