LEXINGTON, Va. — The LIU women's soccer team heads into NEC play riding high.
Freshman
Noa Bartels van Bosbeek scored in the 87th minute off an assist from
Gina Proviano and the Sharks defeated host VMI, 2-1, at Drill Field #2.
Trailing 1-0 after an early own goal, LIU received the equalizer on
Betty Hall's first collegiate goal, which came in the 23rd minute.
On the winner, Proviano was draped by a defender in the box when she fed the ball to van Bosbeek on the left side. Van Bosbeek then placed the ball into the back of the net with her left foot.
"I received the ball in the attacking third and took space attempting to draw Noa's defender," Proviano said. "When she committed to me, I slipped her through for a beautiful finish."
Keely Thomas earned the win in goal.
LIU improved to 3-2-1 as its conference opener looms Thursday at LIU Soccer Park against Stonehill.
