Joe Patrovich has reinforced his roster for the 2023-24 academic year.
The team announced 14 signings on Tuesday: incoming freshmen
Tommy Bonasera,
Nic D'Alessandro,
Nicholas Gorman,
Alex Hyman,
William McMullen,
Anthony Mirando,
Jack Pickersgill,
Donavan Smith,
Noah Tocaben,
Jack Valentin and
Ariel Waldman. They will be joined by transfers
Christopher Betancourt (Mt. San Antonio),
Bo DiJulius (Edinboro) and
Brayden Roberts (West Virginia).
Bonasera (149 pounds), a graduate of Wantagh High School, captained the Warriors his senior year and wrestled at an all-county level while qualifying for states and placing in Eastern States.
D'Allesandro (125) captained his Londonderry prep team as a junior and senior, was a New Hampshire state champion last year and holds the program record for takedowns with 142.
Gorman (133), a Pittsburgh native, won the Texas state championship with a 56-1 record as a junior after moving from Pennsylvania. He then finished third in states as a senior and produced a 145-21 career prep record.
Hyman (125) was a four-time Georgia all-state and all-county selection, won the GHSA AAAA state championship as a senior with a record of 36-3. He was a GHSA AA state runner-up at 106 pounds as a sophomore and at 113 pounds as a junior.
McMullen (149/157) was a four-time all-county wrestler and two-time team MVP while at Bethpage High School. He captained the squad for three years and produced a career record of 125-27.
Mirando (133/141), an East Northport native, became Elwood John Glenn High School's first-ever four-time county finalist. He produced a 111-18 prep record, including 34-3 as a senior. He also led his team to a 2023 league championship as well as a 2023 dual team county championship.
Pickersgill (165/174) wrestled for five seasons at Sachem East High School, produced a 77-33 career prep record with 58 pins, and was an all-division varsity football player.
A two-time New York State finalist, Smith (149/157) was a four-year captain at Elmira High School, produced a 182-23 career prep record (36-2 as a senior), and was an All-American at the 2023 NHSCA Senior Nationals.
Tocaben (141) was an All-Western North Carolina wrestler as well as the conference's wrestler of the year. He also was a two-time Greco state champ, two-time freestyle state finalist, three-time Team North Carolina selection and a NWCA Scholar All-American.
Valentin (149) wrestled the past five seasons at Long Beach High School. He placed third in Nassau County and seventh in the state at 145 pounds as a senior.
Waldman (133/141), a Hewlett native, was a county champion and all-state, with a 47-7 record, in 2023. He earned four all-county selections and was the highest state placer in the history of Hewlett High School.
Betancourt (125) earned an associate's degree in the spring of 2023 from Mt. San Antonio, was selected as an All-American as a freshman and won the CCCAA championship as a sophomore.
DiJulius (141), an Athens, Ohio, native, wrestled for three years at Aurora High School and then attended Division I Edinboro before transferring to LIU.
Roberts (157) was a three-time West Virginia state champion in high school. Then, as a freshman at West Virginia, he was named a Scholar All-American — the program's first in 12 years. He recorded a 24-13 record and 10 pins with the Mountaineers. Roberts also was the Fargo Greco national champion.
"We're really, really excited with the group. Depth was an issue for us, depth is always a problem, but this group helps to cover six weights really well," coach
Joe Patrovich said. "We have a lot of good guys coming in. I think they can definitely help us this season and in the future."
