BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The reigning champion LIU baseball team's pursuit of an NEC Tournament spot will go down to the regular season's final weekend.
First-place Central Connecticut State completed a sweep on the Sharks with a 14-2 win on Sunday at the LIU Baseball Stadium.
LIU sits at 15-12 in conference play with a series at Wagner remaining.
The Sharks are tied with Sacred Heart for fourth place, with Merrimack (13-14) and Maryland Eastern Shore (12-15) also in contention.
Six teams qualify for the NEC tourney, so one of those teams will be on the outside after next weekend.
On Sunday, the Blue Devils pounced for nine runs over the opening two innings and never trailed.
LIU concludes its nonconference schedule on Tuesday at Saint Peter's before opening a critical three-game series at Wagner on Thursday.
