BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU baseball team honored
Chris Buehler,
Alec Huertas,
James Steindl and
Jack VanDoran in a pregame Senior Day ceremony on Saturday.
The Sharks then lost a heartbreaker to first-place Central Connecticut State, 11-9, at the LIU Baseball Stadium.
LIU's streak of winning six straight NEC series was snapped.
The Sharks had evened the score a 9 with a two-run eighth that included a sacrifice fly from
Jake Mastillo and
Seth Surrett scoring on a wild pitch.
However, the Blue Devils answered on a two-run homer from A Redahan a half-inning later.
VanDoran logged a career-high 4 1/3 innings in relief of starter
Garrett Yawn.
Ty McInnes handled the final two innings.
Max Samson was forced to depart with an apparent injury after his second plate appearance. He was replaced in left field by
Myles Proctor, who subsequently walked twice in three plate appearances.
Surrett was 3-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored.
Connor Price had two hits and two RBIs.
LIU will look to avoid the sweep when the series concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m.
