BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Right-hander
Alec Huertas set the tone for the LIU baseball team's series win by limiting Sacred Heart to two runs in seven innings in Friday's opener.
And on Tuesday, Huertas repeated as the NEC Pitcher of the Week.
Huertas, a redshirt senior from Bethlehem, Pa., is now 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA and has averaged 7 1/3 innings in his last three starts — all against conference opponents.
LIU has won back-to-back NEC series and now sits at 6-6 in conference play entering Thursday's series opener at Norfolk State.
Also on Tuesday, center fielder
Max Samson joined Huertas as an NEC Prime Performer.
Samson, a redshirt junior from Seattle, produced the first four-hit game of his collegiate career in a 12-11 walk-off win in Sunday's rubber game against the Pioneers.
Samson has an active 10-game hitting streak, during which he has hit .471 (16-for-34) with five RBIs, five steals and a .561 on-base percentage.
