DOVER, Del. — The LIU baseball team erupted at the plate and swept a series-opening doubleheader from Delaware State on Thursday, 12-7 and 23-8.
The scoring output in the nightcap marked the most runs by LIU in a Division I game since a 24-6 win at Wagner during the 1997 season.
The program record is 29 against St. Francis (N.Y.) in 1955.
LIU improved to 12-8 in the NEC.
In the opener,
Connor Price and
Christopher Hund homered back-to-back in the ninth to secure the victory and combined to drive in seven runs in the game.
Max Samson had a three-steal game for the second time this season and scored twice while also driving in two runs. And
JC Navarro went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
In Game 2, the Sharks opened a 9-1 lead via a five-run second and four-run third. Samson contributed a three-run double and Hund again homered – this time a three-run blast – during that early scoring burst.
