BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Alec Huertas contributed another strong starting pitching performance, but the LIU baseball team ultimately fell to NJIT, 14-3, on Friday in the opener of a three-game series.
Huertas struck out 10 for the first time in his collegiate career and shook off a first-inning two-run homer to limit the Highlanders to three runs on five hits in six innings.
However, NJIT tagged the LIU bullpen for 11 runs and the Sharks committed three errors.
The teams continue the series on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the LIU Baseball Stadium.
