CHARLESTON, S.C. — Jake Mastillo matched
JC Navarro for the team lead in homers with his fourth of the season. But the LIU baseball team remains in search of its first 2023 victory after falling to The Citadel, 12-5, on Saturday at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park.
Mastillo's two-run shot capped a four-run sixth inning as LIU pulled within 7-5. However, the Bulldogs answered with five runs over their next two frames en route to the win.
Right-hander
Dominic Pieto logged three innings for LIU in his first start since March 17, 2021.
Coach
Dan Pirillo shook up the weekend rotation for the Citadel series, leaving
Alec Huertas in place on Friday, but calling upon Pieto on Saturday and
Garrett Yawn for Sunday's series finale.
The teams conclude the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
