BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Right-hander
Alec Huertas provided another solid outing and
Jack VanDoran earned his first career save as the LIU baseball team won the series opener en route to a split on Friday against Sacred Heart.
The Sharks won the opener, 6-5, before falling in the nightcap, 16-6.
In Game 1, Huertas limited the Pioneers to two runs on six hits in seven innings. And after the Pioneers pulled within a run in the ninth, VanDoran recorded the game's final two outs to secure the win.
Carlton Harper and
Jake Mastillo each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs in the opener.
The teams complete the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the LIU Baseball Stadium.
