BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Right-hander
Alec Huertas contributed the longest outing by an LIU baseball pitcher this season and four different Sharks homered in a series-opening win against Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday.
LIU beat the Hawks, 9-3, behind seven quality innings from Huertas and long balls from
Carlton Harper,
JC Navarro,
Connor Price and
Keniel De Leon at the LIU Baseball Stadium.
After surrendering a pair of first-inning runs, then a one-out single to Kyle Cincinnati in the second, Huertas retired the next eight UMES batters. Huertas posted six scoreless frames to close his outing.
Shane Tucker handled the final two innings.
LIU immediately answered UMES in the bottom of the first, plating a pair of runs on Navarro's two-run homer.
The Sharks broke the 2-all tie with a five-run fifth that included
Jake Mastillo scoring on a balk, Harper scoring on a wild pitch and back-to-back homers from Price and De Leon.
The teams continue the NEC series on Saturday at 1 p.m.
