RINDGE, N.H. — The LIU women's hockey team will be looking to get back on track on Saturday when it closes the regular season at Franklin Pierce.
The Sharks, who clinched the regular-season championship and No. 1 seed in the NEWHA tournament two weeks ago, suffered their second straight loss on Friday afternoon.
Julia Stevens scored the tiebreaking goal with 1 minute, 50 seconds remaining in regulation and host Franklin Pierce defeated the Sharks, 3-2.
Before its current back-to-back losses to Sacred Heart and Franklin Pierce, LIU had suffered its only other conference loss nearly four months ago — on Oct. 21 at Saint Anselm. The Sharks had been 16-0-3 in NEWHA games between defeats.
On Friday,
Megan Bouveur's late second-period goal had drawn the Sharks even at 2 entering the second intermission.
LIU and Franklin Pierce now conclude the regular season on Saturday at noon at Jason Ritchie Ice Rink.
The Sharks have earned a bye into the conference semifinals and will host the lowest remaining seed in an elimination game on March 1 at 3 p.m. at Northwell Health Ice Center. Tickets are available
