RINDGE, N.H. — The LIU women's hockey team now has the remainder of the month to prepare to host a NEWHA semifinal game.
After clinching the conference's regular-season title, the Sharks took the pedal off the metal and enter the postseason having lost three straight.
Franklin Pierce completed a two-game sweep of LIU to close the regular season with a 2-0 win on Saturday at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
The Sharks were held scoreless for the first time Sept. 25, when then-No. 5 Minnesota Duluth came to Northwell Health Ice Center to open the season and posted a 5-0 victory in Game 2.
LIU next hosts a NEWHA semifinal on March 1 at 3 p.m. The Sharks will face the lowest remaining seed after best-of-three quarterfinal series among six other teams.
LIU enters the playoffs with an 18-13-3 overall record and 17-4-3 NEWHA mark. Both win totals are records for the four-year-old program.
