NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Lluna Katz's four-goal performance against Iona led the LIU women's lacrosse team to overtime against the Gales.
However, LIU ultimately fell 14-13 in the extra frame.
Katz, a transfer in her first season with the Sharks, scored the equalizer with 37 seconds remaining in regulation to force the exra session.
Olivia Fantigrossi and Leah Nonnenmann scored three goals each for the Sharks.
Freshman Julia Trainor, the reigning NEC Rookie of the Week, scored the first two goals of her collegiate career, including a second-quarter score that staked LIU a 5-1 lead.
Jen Gaffney's third-quarter tally tied the score at 11, before Nonnemann scored a free position goal to give the Sharks a 12-11 lead.
LIU next plays Saturday at 2 p.m. at Quinnipiac.
