EAST MEADOW, N.Y.— The men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the ECAC Winter Championships on Sunday evening and the Sharks impressed. The men medaled, finishing in third place while the women narrowly missed the podium by finishing in fourth just behind Siena.
Dani Chocano Fernández had a great weekend, winning both the 200-yard and 400-yard IM races. He finished the 200 in 1:51.71 and the 400 in 4:00.72, which was nearly eight seconds better than his preliminary time.
The relay team of
Benny Karlsson,
Giannis Venetos,
Ethan Law and
Alejandro Pascual Del Cid was on fire as they won both the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays. They finished the 200 in 1:29.19 and the 400 in 3:19.61.
Venetos also won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:00.17.
The women's team had in a number of solid performances from
Mariajose Lopez Lizarraga,
Anapaula Gomez Janeiro,
Allie Bashor,
Lara Wielkiewicz and
Kia Moerk.
Lopez Lizarraga finished third in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:06.10 while Gomez Janeiro finished fifth with a 17:32.09.
The Sharks return to the pool on Jan. 20 when they host the Dolphins of Le Moyne.
