LAS VEGAS — Anthony D'Alesio and
Devin Matthews each won a pair of matches at the Cliff Keen Last Vegas Wrestling Invitational this weekend.
After falling to seventh-seeded William Feldkamp of Iowa State in the championship bracket's opening round, 7-5, at 184 pounds, D'Alesio won a pair of consolation bracket matches — defeating Hofstra's Will Conlon, 10-2, and ninth-seeded Troy Fisher of Northwestern, 7-5. D'Alesio then fell to Michigan's Jaden Bullock, by fall.
At 141 pounds, Matthews fell to eighth-seeded Anthony Echemendia of Iowa State, 7-3, in the championship bracket's opening round. Matthews then produced wins against Utah Valley's James Emmer (5-1) and Navy's Joshua Koderhandt (forfeit) before falling in a major decision to Wyoming's Cole Brooks.
Rhise Royster,
Aeden Begue and
Drew Witham each produced one consolation-round win.
LIU finished with 12 points, good for 29th among the 35 teams at the prestigious event.
The Sharks next are in action when they host Bloomsburg next Saturday at 4 p.m. at Pratt Recreation Center.
