EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — The LIU women's hockey team remained unbeaten in NEWHA play with its fifth straight victory on Friday afternoon.
The Sharks defeated NEWHA newcomer Assumption, 3-1, at Northwell Health Ice Center.
LIU improved to 5-0 against conference opponents and moved above .500 for the first time this season, at 5-4.

Milana Butera scored for the Sharks, who had taken a 3-0 lead before Assumption cracked the scoreboard midway through the third period.
Butera, a sophomore forward, scored the first goal of her collegiate career.
Goaltender
Tindra Holm made 33 saves. She has limited opponents to one goal in each of LIU's five NEWHA games.
The Sharks and Assumption conclude the two-game series on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Northwell Health Ice Center.
