Joshua Saavedra's First Two Collegiate Goals Keep Men's Soccer Unbeaten in NEC

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Freshman Joshua Saavedra produced his first two collegiate goals on Sunday. He nearly had a hat trick.

And his performance helped the LIU men's soccer team remain unbeaten in NEC play with a 2-2 draw against Merrimack at LIU Soccer Park.

Saavedra, a midfielder from Miami, tallied goals in the 38th and 66th minutes to give the Sharks a one-goal lead. However, Merrimack evened the score in the 84 minute.

Saavedra had another would-be first-half goal waved off because of an offside call.

LIU moved to 4-4-3 overall and 1-0-2 in the NEC.

The Sharks return to action next Sunday when they host Howard at 1 p.m. at LIU Soccer Park.
