Maggie Culp's First Career Hat Trick Leads Women's Hockey to FPU Sweep

RINDGE, N.H. — Maggie Culp broke into the goal-scoring column in a big way on Saturday.

Culp, a senior left winger from Oswego, Ill., produced her first career hat trick as well as her first goals of the season as the LIU women's hockey team completed a two-game sweep of host Franklin Pierce with a 4-1 victory.

Culp staked the Sharks to a 2-0 lead with a pair of first-period goals. After the Ravens pulled within a goal in the second period, Ashley Morrow and Culp scored later in the period to open a three-goal cushion.

LIU evened its overall record at 4-4 and improved to 4-0 in NEWHA.

They have outscored opponents 13-4 in conference play.

Tindra Holm made 27 saves on 28 shots.

The Sharks next return to Long Island to host Assumption next Friday and Saturday at Northwell Health Ice Center. The team will unveil its 2022-23 NEWHA championship banner during a ceremony before the 2 p.m. Saturday game.
