BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU wrestling team is starting its season on a strong note, thanks to a generous donation of $50,000 from the Town of Babylon.
Town supervisor Rich Schaffer personally delivered the check to coach
Joe Patrovich and the LIU wrestling team on Monday afternoon.
Patrovich conveyed his deep appreciation to Supervisor Schaffer, the Town of Babylon, and the Sea Ray Wrestling Club, recognizing their pivotal roles in making this contribution possible.
"The LIU wrestling program is proud and excited to team up with the Town of Babylon, Rich Schaffer and the Sea Ray Wrestling Club. Rich as always been at the forefront promoting athletics, and we can't thank the Town and Rich enough," Patrovich said.
The wrestling program will receive an additional $50,000 in funding from the Town of Babylon during its 2024-25 season. The source of this funding is Town of Babylon's American Rescue Plan Act funds.
"We are extremely grateful for the generous gift to the LIU wrestling program," director of athletics Ryan Kelly said. "This will have an immediate impact on the program and allow us to enhance our student-athlete experience."
LIU opens its season on Nov. 11.
