EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — The LIU women's hockey team looked like it had taken the lead late in the third period when
Mikayla Lantto slammed home a rebound with the Sharks on a two-man advantage.
However, after a replay review, the referees waved off the score because of a goaltender interference ruling.
No matter.
Skating 5-on-4 a minute later,
Jeannie Wallner scored the game-winner with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation and the Sharks ultimately completed a home-and-home sweep of Sacred Heart with a 3-1 win on Saturday night at Northwell Health Ice Center.
Sarah Rourke sealed the victory with an empty-netter in the final minute.
The Sharks had trailed 1-0 entering the third, but Lantto remedied that with a power-play goal 3:10 into the period.
Tindra Holm made 26 saves in the victory.
The reigning NEWHA champions are now 2-0 in conference play to begin 2023-24. Wallner had a combined three goals in the two games against Sacred Heart.
The Sharks return to action with a games at Franklin Pierce on Oct. 27 and 28.
