BROOKLYN, N.Y. — LIU men's fencing defeated Hunter in its first dual of Sunday's Tri-State Shark Showcase.
 
The Sharks dropped their next four and moved to 5-20 overall.
 
Against Hunter, the team won foil, 5-4, led by Carlos Carrasco, Christopher Hadchity and Jonathan Timal.
 
Brahim Khaylat and Marawan Elrashidy anchored the epee team and won decisively, 8-1.
 
A sweep came on sabre, thanks to Andrew Gefell, Richard Chen and Eduardo Duarte.
 
LIU returns to action on February 12 at the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
