HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — André Puente's first goal of the season pulled the LIU men's soccer team even shortly before halftime on Wednesday night.
However, Hofstra answered with a pair of second-half goals and produced a 3-2 win against the visiting Sharks.
Puente's equalizer had come on a header off a crossing pass from
Robert Winkler in the 43rd minute to tie the score at 1.
Puente added a goal in the 89th minute, his second of the match, to cap the scoring and set a career high.
Puente, a junior from Chihuahua, Mexico, had three goals and three assists last season en route to earning first-team All-NEC honors.
LIU dropped to 2-2 with Wednesday's loss.
The Sharks return to action Saturday when they face Dartmouth at 5 p.m. in Hanover, N.H.
