EASTON, Mass. — Nevaeh Rascon's free kicks sparked the LIU women's soccer team to its first NEC victory of the season on Thursday.
Rascon set up
Taylor Curcio's header that opened the scoring in the fourth minute. Rascon then scored the tiebreaking goal in the 56th minute when her free kick hit the left post and bounced into the goal.
The Sharks ultimately defeated NEC newcomer Stonehill, 2-1, at rainy Skyhawk Field.
A senior from Tucson, Ariz., Rascon had scored her first career goal one week ago against Central Connecticut State.
"When I stepped up to take the free kick, I knew it was within range to put it on frame," Rascon said about the game-winner at Stonehill. "We needed a goal to come out on top, and my team was all over them trying to get the win."
LIU (3-6-2 overall) improved to 1-1-1 in NEC play.
The Sharks look to extend their unbeaten streak to three games when they return to Massachusetts to face Merrimack next Thursday.
