NEW YORK — Striker Emil Jaaskelainen saved the best for the 89th minute. Again.

Jaaskelainen scored on a header off a pass from Robert Winkler with the clock winding down and the LIU men's soccer team defeated host Columbia, 1-0, on Saturday night.

The Sharks extended their winning streak to three matches.

Gianluca Cersosimo produced four saves for his second shutout and third straight victory since assuming the starting goalkeeping role.

Cersosimo, a graduate transfer from Georgian Court University, produced a point-blank save in the 54th minute to preserve a scoreless tie at that point. He has conceded only one goal in three matches since entering the starting lineup.

LIU has now earned consecutive wins against Dartmouth (2-0), Manhattan (2-1) and Columbia.

Jaaskelainen also had the game-winner in the 89th minute against Manhattan — that one on a penalty kick.

The Sharks (5-2) next host Hartford on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before entering conference play against Central Connecticut State next Sunday.
