Men's Soccer Posts Largest Margin of Victory in Six Years in Win vs. Hartford

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU men's soccer team heads into conference play off its most lopsided win in six years.

The Sharks defeated Hartford, 5-0, on Tuesday at LIU Soccer Park behind goals from Robert Winkler, Matthias Heiland, Emil Jaaskelainen, Papa Sow and Michael Principe.

Goalkeeper Julian Quaresima, making his first career start, recorded the shutout.

It marked the largest margin of victory for LIU since a 5-0 win against Sacred Heart on Oct. 21, 2016.

Head coach Michael Mordocco used 24 student-athletes in the lopsided match against Hartford.

Luka Albano, Nick Demers, Saïdou Diallo, Ivan Jara, Christopher Seychell, Aiden Wilson and Quaresima all made their season debuts.

The Sharks outshot Hartford, 28-1.

The Hawks, who are transitioning to Division III, finished the match with nine players on the field due to a pair of red cards.

The Sharks (6-2) enter NEC play having won four straight matches. They host Central Connecticut State in the league opener on Sunday at 1 p.m.
