ALBANY, N.Y. — The LIU men's tennis team had banner results as it began its 2022-23 season during the weekend's Siena Invitational.

Gui Medeiros defeated teammate Arthur Voiseux in the C flight finals.

Meanwhile, in that flight's back draw, freshman Lucas Hornung burst onto the collegiate scene by reaching the finals.

In the B flight singles, Danila Ishchanka reached the semifinals. Trailing 6-1, 4-1, he rallied and even led in a tiebreaker before ultimately falling.

And in the A flight backdraw final, Ales D'Anna defeated teammate Philip Hilble, 8-6.

"It was a very good opening tournament for us this weekend," coach Jan Griga said. "We got to see our team's newest additions in action and the energy was exceptional across the board. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but all the signs are pointing to a great season if we do things right."

The Sharks return to action Sept. 23 at the MIT Invitational.
